In Townsville we are blessed with a tropical climate and lifestyle that makes southern states jealous. However, we pay for all that sunshine and seasonal rain through environmental exposure to our properties, which can accelerate damage and aging.

Whether you’re joining the Queenslander club or taking advantage of the plethora of newly built modern homes in Townsville, they all come with their unique challenges and there are specific things you need to look out for when house hunting.

At Keyes and Co. Property, we have been selling Queensland properties in our local community, in our unique climate for over 9 years.  Our team of agents collectively have experience in property in this region spanning almost 3 decades.  We know what to look out for and how to avoid buying a property that could end up costly to repair.

That’s why we’ve created this buying series to take the guess work out of buying a home in Townsville. Here are our top 3 tips:

  1. Check metal rooves for surface rust which could lead to much deeper issues.

2. Check the stumps for rendered repairs and ensure metal stumps have a concreate mound at the base to prevent water ponding against the steel and causing rust.

  • Check for cracks, chalking or peeling paint on the exterior walls of modern rendered homes. Larger cracks can signify structural damage and should be discussed with your agent.
